Lunchtime Concert Series

First Friday of the Month at 1.00pm.

Join with pianist George Hetherington on the first Friday of the month for a relaxing hour in The McGuinness Gallery as he introduces us to a galaxy of easy-listening music, sung by top-notch entertainers.

The current series comes to an end on Friday 4 July when Pauline Ash and Joe Watson are ‘Two in Tune’.

All Tickets £2.50. Refreshments are available.

Wear Valley Proms in the Park

Auckland Castle Sunday 20 July, Start time: 7.00pm (doors open at 5.30pm)

Enjoy a fantastic outdoor concert, suitable for all ages, in the picturesque setting of Auckland Castle. This year’s programme includes Bruch’s Violin Concerto, Gershwin’s Summertime, Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance and many more Proms’ favourites.

Conducted by Xenophon Kelsey, the Mowbray Orchestra frequently performs at Ripley Castle and provides orchestra for Opus 1 Opera Productions, touring throughout the UK and Ireland and accompanying choirs and choral societies in Cumbria, Teesside and Yorkshire.

As this is an outdoor event, the audience is reminded to wear suitable clothing and to bring a seat or blanket and a picnic if required.

Tickets: £12/£8 concessions/Family ticket £25 (2 adults and 2 children)

Snake Davies with Saxophone

Thursday 11 September at 8.00pm

Top British soul and funk saxophonist Snake Davis and his Band celebrate the release of his 8th album. In demand across the world for his uplifting playing, Snake is also a musical director, writer, arranger, bandleader and inspiring teacher.

He has played and recorded with artists ranging from James Brown to Paul McCartney, The Eurythmics to Amy Winehouse. Snake will be playing music from the new album as well as some old favourites. As always, his love of soul music comes through in his playing as well as jazz, r & b, funk and world music. He is joined tonight by Paul Birchall on keyboards, Bryan Hargreaves on drums and Neil Fairclough on bass.

Snake is the only saxophonist who can literally make his instruments sing!

Flossie Malavialle

Wednesday 24 September at 8.00pm

French singer Flossie had been singing for years in her native France before getting involved in the British folk scene while she was on a teaching exchange in the North East. She loved Darlington so much she decided to stay! She has released 6 albums and her vast repertoire includes the songs made famous by Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel. Flossie loves songs full of energy and you will be energised by her dazzling performance.

Support will be provided by Barbara Thow, Neil Mason and Alan Murray - regular performers at ‘The Candlelight Live Music Club’ based at Newton Aycliffe.
